Alright, it is time to get serious for a second. We need to talk about the most important person in your life. We need to have a quick chat about your camp cook. You know – the early riser, brewing coffee and scrambling eggs before you peek out of your sleeping bag cocoon; the pack mule who carries the food and their favorite cooking equipment. It’s time to take care of them. Here are a bunch of ideas we came up with for you to surprise that special person in your party – in secret hopes they will be used to continue preparing delicious meals!
Jetboil’s Genesis Base Camp Burner System will make any camp culinarian drool. This system not only has two burners but also a pot and a pan which stack on top of each other, creating a compact kitchen fit for a backpack. This means you can boil water for coffee and fry bacon at the same time. Can I get a hallelujah?
Speaking of boiling water, the Sea to Summit X-Set 32 is a great alternative for the cook who already has a camp stove set up. All three pieces, a pot, a kettle and a pan, collapse and nest inside one another for optimal storage potential.
Sometimes a hike takes a little longer than expected. It isn’t the most fun to set up a dinner after miles and miles of backpacking, but it is especially grueling to do so in the dark. We suggest a headlamp for those situations. This Black Diamond Headlamp fits well and provides the exact right amount of hands-free illumination for any cooking setup.
I don’t have to be the one to tell you that coffee is important. We all know this. Gift a few brewing essentials this holiday to keep everyone in your party happy and caffeinated.
When it comes to coffee, boiling water is the starting point. We use either the Sea to Summit Kettle (available in the X Set 33 with the most bang for your buck) or a Jetboil, depending on the setting. The kettle collapses and is great when a campfire or stove is already available. The Jetboil is a portable, propane fueled mini burner that requires no extra equipment. Just light it up and within minutes you will be enjoying hot, glorious coffee, or oatmeal, or mac and cheese, or anything you boil really. Get it, JetBOIL. Anyway, going one step further, gift your cook the JetBoil Joule Cooking System. This system is light, easy to set-up and will easily brew a cup of joe anywhere you may find yourself – be it trail, crag or mountainside.
One cannot cheers all on their own! So, in the spirit of giving, grab the Jetboil Spare Cup – because there really isn’t a better way to show you care than with the act of sharing coffee.
So this one time, in Joshua Tree – we forgot spoons…Don’t resort to eating with your grimy, chalk ridden hands. Use the Sea to Summit Spork Knife instead.
We wanted to give these miscellaneous pieces a section of their own. We know coworkers are the hardest to shop for. You want to get them something inexpensive, but usable. Well, here are a couple camp kitchen items that are so versatile you wouldn’t know they were intended for a camp kitchen. Perfect for coworkers, friends and seriously anyone:
Because you never know when you’re going to need a collapsible shot glass.
Because everyone knows someone who eats Cheetos with chopsticks, and these are hilarious.
This is an area I always seem to forget about when packing. Clean up while camping can be tricky, especially when utilizing Leave No Trace practices. So here are some great stocking stuffers that will make clean-up a breeze:
Environmentally friendly soap
12” x 12” washcloths perfect for drying dishes and hands
Crazy light, collapsible bucket that condenses enough to fit in a pocket
